Food and Drink

The Spread Eagle serves breakfast, morning refreshments, lunch, afternoon refreshments and dinner daily throughout the year.

Breakfast is available from 8am to 9am, our times for lunch service are 12pm to 3pm and dinner 7pm to 9pm.

Outside of these hours morning and afternoon refreshments are available (tea, coffee, snacks, cream teas, teacakes as an example)

There are three different rooms used for eating inside the inn and the food and waiter/waitress service is the same throughout.

The eating areas at the inn are the red room and green room, these are named as such due to the Farrow & Ball colours that have been used. The green room directly behind the bar is the smaller of the two with a wood burner and comfy sofas.

The impressive red room has an open fire, high ceilings with chandeliers and views of the lake from its picture windows.

There is also our more traditional bar area with 19th Century prints, horse brasses and is warmed by a large blazing log burner in winter, creating a cosy atmosphere.

The kitchen offers menus that source local food such as Free Range Eggs from St Martins Farm just off the Estate, Wiltshire Game from Tisbury, Steaks and English Beef from the West Country as well as many fish dishes such as Lyme Bay Scallops and Fillets of Cornish Bream. One of our most popular dishes is a Wiltshire Ploughman's Lunch served with our Homemade Kilmington Ale and Apple Chutney.


The bar offers a choice of 3 local hand pumped Real Ales, Kilmington Ale which is made by the Wessex Brewery less than 2 miles from the Estate, Butcombe Original and a Guest Ale. We also have Ashton Press Apple Cider and Lilleys Apple & Pear Cider, both on draught and these compliment a range of draught Lagers and Beers, Butcombe Blonde Premium Beer being popular. The inn also offers a wine list and a varied selection of soft drinks.

The bar opening times are 10am to 11pm except on a Sunday when open from 12pm to 10.30pm. (Due to licensing laws there are special days when these hours will vary).
